This project involved the comprehensive redevelopment of a historic 1929 shopping precinct arcade, focusing on modernizing both its aesthetic and functional aspects. Key elements included the safe demolition of asbestos and outdated masonry shop fronts, and the installation of contemporary finishes such as a new flooring profile, red iron bark ship lapping, and sleek, powder-coated glazed shop fronts.
In addition to these enhancements, the construction also featured the creation of accessible amenities for ambulant users, an upgraded arcade entrance, stylish herringbone-tiled flooring, and an entire reimagining of the lighting system throughout the space. A standout feature is the incorporation of powder-coated, electronically controlled security roller grills, paired with high open ceilings that invite natural light into the arcade’s alfresco dining areas.
This 1000+ square meter transformation was expertly designed by architects Dominic Finlay Jones, and completed in just 39 weeks—all while the arcade remained operational six days a week, ensuring minimal disruption to its daily business.
